What is the Texas Scramble Golf Match Format?
The R&A defines a Texas Scramble as a four-person team scramble, that often requires a minimum number of tee shots by each member of the team to be used during the round. Another common rule is to require a player to play their own ball for each par 3 hole.
To play, each player tees of and the team then decides which drive is the best one to take. All members of the team move their golf balls to the position of the chosen drive, with all members playing a second shot from that position. Again, after the second shots, one is chosen and from there, all team members play a third shot. This continues until the ball is holed and each team records a single total score for each hole. The team with the lowest score for the round is the winning team.
The calculation for this format of golf is one of the most complex and consists of;
A Scramble of 4 players is 25% / 20% / 15% / 10% from the lowest to highest handicap.
A 3 player Scramble is 30% / 20% / 10% from the lowest to highest handicap.
A 2 player Scramble is 35% Low / 15% High.
