What is the Four-ball Betterball Golf Match Format?
A Four-ball Betterball (sometimes called "4BBB") golf match format is where 2 pairs of golfers play each other, with all players teeing off and the lowest net score in each pair, counting for that team. You can also make up a team of 4 players, with the best score of 4, counting as the team score.
Matchplay or strokeplay format can be used and normally, the men will use 80% of the course handicap to work out how many shots are allowed for each player and women typically use 90%, with only 1 player in the team needing to hole out, for the score to count. Using matchplay, each player works out the score for each hole and the lowest team net score, wins the hole. The match is won, once a team has won more holes that are available to play and if the match is drawn by the 18th hole, the match is a draw.
